The weather is beginning to cool off, which means that winter isn't too far away. It won't be long before the sandals are going to be tucked away in the back of the closet and you are going to be wearing closed-toe shoes and boots for the next several months all the time. Even so, this doesn't mean that you want – or should – neglect your feet. To ensure that your pedicure remains looking its best throughout the winter months, here are four tips:

Tip #1: Apply Moisturizer to Your Feet After Bathing.

Probably one of the worst things about winter is that the cold air and humidity level will take the moisture right out of your skin. The result? Rough, flaky, and unattractive skin. Unfortunately, when you bathe, soap doesn't help matters. Instead, it just makes it worse and helps dry out your skin even more.

Luckily, there is something you can do to help counterbalance this problem. When you get out of the bath or shower, make sure you apply a moisturizer immediately. The thicker the moisturizer, the better. Also, if you can get your hands on a moisturizer that is specifically made for your feet, this is ideal.

Tip #2: Use a Pumice Stone.

Over time, dead skin cells will accumulate on your feet. These will lead to roughness and dryness if they are not removed. Pumice stones are excellent at removing said dead skin cells.

You want to be careful when you choose to remove these dead skin cells to not injure yourself. Ideally, you need to soak your skin so that it is soft. For that reason, the best time is when you are bathing or showering – ultimately, you should use the pumice stone right before you get out.

Tip #3: Load Up on Vitamin E.

Vitamin E is excellent at healing dry, cracked skin, which means it can help lengthen your pedicure during the winter. The best way to get vitamin E on your feet is by looking for a quality lotion with vitamin E. Another option is to break open a Vitamin E capsule and apply the oil over your feet.

Tip #4: Keep Socks On.

When walking around the house, make sure that you have socks on. When you walk around the house with no socks or shoes on, your skin will become rough and you will ruin your pedicure. It is particularly important to slip on a pair of socks after you moisturize to help lock in that moisture.
